How to Make
Step 1
Step 2
Step 3
- Print and cut out the butterfly template and draw around one half onto cardboard. Then flip the template and draw the other half of the butterfly.
- Then, cut out the butterfly shape from the cardboard.
- Cut long strips of cardboard for the outside walls (approximately 4cm width).
- Then cut various length strips of cardboard for the inner maze walls (approximately 3.5cm width).
- Using the template draw the smaller circle at the top of the left wing and the bigger circle on the right wing. (You can change the positioning of the start and end points).
- Then, cut out the hole on the left wing. You can make this hole big enough for the ball to fall through or sit in.
- Paint the wings pink by mixing red and white paint together and paint the body and start circle yellow.
- Paint the long outside walls blue and the inner maze walls green.
- Allow the paint to dry and then write start on the yellow circle with a black deco pen.
- Using hot glue, stick one end of the blue cardboard strip to the edge of the butterfly shape. Continue to glue and bend the cardboard around the butterfly shape. If you run out of cardboard, you can attach another strip.
- Fold and glue the maze walls inside the butterfly shape. You can sketch out where you would like to position the walls or keep trimming and bending the cardboard strips until you have your desired maze design. Make sure the ball can fit between the walls in the maze.
- Stick blue pipe cleaners around the edge of the butterfly and green pipe cleaners on top of the maze walls.
- For the antennas, cut a yellow pipe cleaner in half, wrap both halves around a pencil to create 2 spiral shapes and glue them to the head of the butterfly.
- Place a bouncy ball at the start and begin tilting the maze to guide the ball to the finish point.
